A 65-year-old tourist died while hiking in the Superstition Wilderness area, the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office said.
The woman’s husband told authorities Wednesday evening that his wife had been having trouble breathing, finally passing out on the Peralta Trail.
She was conscious when he left to get help, the 71-year-old man said, but by the time a rescue team arrived she wasn’t breathing. After resuscitation attempts, she was pronounced dead.
The husband told authorities that the couple were experienced hikers from Los Angeles and that they had been hiking for about 10 hours.
Cause of death is to be determined.
