PHOENIX — The Tempe Police Department is accepting online applications for several police officer recruit positions.

Those who successfully complete the online application will receive additional test information and move forward in the hiring process.

“You have got to go through a pretty rigorous testing process,” Tempe Police Lt. Mike Pooley said. “It starts with the physical fitness testing and then you go through a written test and after that you have to go through an extensive background check.”

Tempe police will likely be hiring five to 15 new officers and they are looking for Arizona’s finest men and women.

“We want people who are willing to come to work and be willing to just talk to people, be accepting and understanding, knowing how to communicate with people no matter who they are and we want people who are intelligent,” Pooley said.

Pooley said those who are on the fence about a career in law enforcement should at least take the first step in the process by applying.

“If you are looking for a job that is exciting, that is different every single day, that gets to really make a difference in the lives of people, this is the job for you,” he said.
