Do we really have that short of a memory?

Remember way back in 2010 when all the political discussion revolved around government spending, the deficit and getting our financial house in order?
Yeah, well neither does Washington, D.C.
As the president and Mitt Romney lock horns and hunker down for the six-month war of words we call a presidential election, lost in the discussion is any of the genuine passion about spending and the role we expect government to play in our lives.
The recent revelations of the GSA’s lavish Vegas parties, Sec. of Defense Panetta’s private jet home every weekend and countless other instances of waste, fraud and abuse show that nothing has, or will, change. Welcome to the culture of “it’s not my money, so why not live it up!”
Government can’t help itself and, for all the talk of belt tightening, oversight and investigations, the fundamental issue is more about human nature.
Don’t believe me? How does your choice of hotels or restaurant’s change when your expense account is picking up the tab? Exactly. Now multiply that by trillions of dollars and millions of government employees and you start to see the issue.
I accept that this is not a right versus left fight, but rather a fight over the size and scope of government. So where do I go come November?
