Police: Man tried to abduct girl near Phoenix middle school

PHOENIX — A man allegedly tried to abduct a young girl walking home from a Phoenix elementary school Monday, police said.
James Holmes with Phoenix Police said the 11-year-old was walking home from Desert Sands Middle School near 67th and Campbell avenues when the man pulled up in a car, got out and attempted to grab her.
“He yelled something like, ‘Come with me,'” Holmes said.
The girl ran home and told her parents what happened. They called police, but officers were unable to locate the man.
“We see these sometimes in the beginning of the school year,” Holmes said, adding more officers will be in the area over the next few days.
The suspect is a white man. He is between 20 and 30 years old, stands about 5-foot-9 and has a skinny build. He has brown hair, blue eyes and a black mustache. He was wearing black pants and a white shirt and was driving a faded blue car.
Anyone with information on the attempted abduction is asked to contact the Phoenix Police Department at 602-262-6151.
