Morning storm knocks out power to more than 10,000 in Phoenix area

PHOENIX — As many as 14,000 people were without power Tuesday morning after a storm pounded the metro Phoenix area.

The number was reduced to just over 2,000 by 12:30 p.m.

Salt River Project said as many as 5,000 customers were without power at one point in the suburbs of Apache Junction, Chandler, Mesa, Scottsdale and Glendale. The specific outages are below:

• Between 40th and 24th streets and Indian School and Bethany Home roads.
• Between 32nd to 16th streets and Indian School to Bethany Home roads.
• Between 19th to 59th avenues and Chandler Boulevard and Dobbin Road.
• Between Lindsay Road, Country Club Drive and McKellips and Indian School roads.
• Between Lindsay, Cooper, Pecos and Warner roads.
• Between Signal Butte, Power, Pecos and Guadalupe roads.
• Between Goldfield and Meridian roads and Broadway Avenue to McDowell Boulevard.
• Between Apache Plum Drive to Goldfield Road and Ruellila Lane to Lost Dutchman Boulevard.

Arizona Public Service said, at one point, about 10,300 customers were without power in Cave Creek, Phoenix and Tempe. As of 11:15 a.m., that number dropped to 7,000. The specific outages are below:

• Between Egret to Lone Mountain and 40th Street to Victoria.
• Between Grovers to Greenway Lane and Cave Creek Road to State Route 51.
• Between Washington and Lincoln and 43rd and 35th avenues.
• Between Rio Salado Parkway to Broadway and Beck to Mill Avenue.

The Tempe Union High School District said power was cut to Tempe High School near Mill Avenue and Broadway Road. Students were kept in classrooms. It was restored about 10:45 a.m.
