Fantasy of Lights Street Parade to disrupt traffic in downtown Tempe area

PHOENIX — If you plan to drive into the downtown Tempe area on Friday, watch out for street restrictions related to the Fantasy of Lights Street Parade.

The holiday season kickoff event runs from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., with the parade starting at Mill Avenue and Third Street at 6 p.m., but area roads will start closing earlier in the day.

Anybody heading to a downtown Tempe business Saturday should call and ask for the best parking and access options.

Where are the Fantasy of Lights Street Parade detours

The following streets will be closed in both directions from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.:

  • Seventh Street between Mill and Maple avenues.
  • Maple Avenue between Sixth and Seventh streets.
  • Third Street between Ash and Mill avenues.

In addition, the following restrictions will be implemented from noon to 10 p.m.:

  • Mill Avenue will be closed in both directions between University Drive and Rio Salado Parkway.
  • Fourth, Fifth, Sixth and Seventh streets will be closed in both directions at Mill Avenue.
  • Fifth Street will be closed between Ash and Forest avenues. Local traffic will be able to travel between Forest and Mill avenues.

The Fantasy of Lights Street Parade and related activities will also restrict streetcar and bus routes in the area. A full list of the street closures and transit impact is available on the city of Tempe website.
