Investigation ongoing after deadly afternoon shooting in Phoenix

PHOENIX — An investigation is ongoing after a deadly afternoon shooting in Phoenix on Wednesday, authorities said.

Officers responded to a call about a fight and possible shooting near 21st Avenue and Thunderbird Road around 3 p.m., according to the Phoenix Police Department.

They found two men at the scene, one with a gunshot wound.

The shooting victim, whose name was not released, was pronounced dead after being taken to a hospital.

The other man was detained and interviewed. He was then released pending further investigation.

Police said the case will be submitted to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office to make a charging decision when the investigation is complete.
