PHOENIX — Apache Junction is seeking developers to transform a historic piece of property in the East Valley suburb’s downtown district.
The city wants to turn the centrally located site into a shopping and dining destination after buying it for $2.9 million in May.
The goal is to build “a dynamic hub that fosters community connection and creates vibrant spaces for residents, businesses and visitors,” City Manager Bryant Powell said in a press release Thursday.
The 10-acre parcel includes the land where the iconic Grand Hotel once stood at the intersection of W. Apache Trail and N. Apache Trail. A residential project to be built nearby is in the planning stage.
Apache Junction opens RFP process for downtown land
Apache Junction’s downtown district is about 36 miles east of downtown Phoenix, off Idaho Road and Apache Trail.
Last week, the City Council adopted an update to the Apache Junction Downtown Revitalization Master Plan that establishes a vision for the area.
The city then opened the request for proposal (RFP) process for developers interested in buying or leasing some of the land. RFP documents must be submitted by Jan. 9.
“We invite developers to bring forward innovative proposals that will enhance economic growth while honoring the unique character of Apache Junction,” Powell said.
