Suspect arrested after allegedly shooting 2 people in Phoenix, leading police on highway chase

PHOENIX — A suspect was arrested after being accused of shooting two people before leading police on a highway chase to southern Arizona early Friday morning, authorities said.
Officers responded to a call near 43rd Avenue and McDowell Road around 1:30 a.m. and found two victims suffering from gunshot wounds that were not considered life-threatening, according to the Phoenix Police Department.
The suspect, 29-year-old Luis Lopez Gutierrez, had already left the scene but his vehicle was found by officers shortly after, police said.
Lopez then took off from police and was eventually tracked going southbound on Interstate 10.
Arizona Department of Public Safety troopers tried to stop Lopez, who continued on until he was taken into custody near Marana, about 100 miles from the original incident.

Lopez was taken to a hospital for injuries sustained during the chase. He has since been released and taken back to Phoenix.
He was booked on charges of aggravated assault, disorderly conduct with a firearm, trespassing, discharging a firearm at a nonresidential structure, discharging a firearm at a residential structure, unlawful discharge of a firearm within and into the limits of a municipality and misconduct involving weapons.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
