Homicide investigation underway after body found at Papago Park in Phoenix

PHOENIX — Homicide detectives were called in after a man was found dead at Papago Park in Phoenix on Thursday morning, authorities said.
Officers responded to the park at 600 N. Galvin Parkway, between McDowell Road and Van Buren Street, around 7:30 a.m., according to the Phoenix Police Department.
The Phoenix Fire Department was already at the scene and had pronounced the man dead. The victim’s name has not been released.
“Due to elements found at the scene, homicide detectives responded to assume the investigation,” Sgt. Rob Scherer said in a media advisory.
The Maricopa County Medical Examiner’s Office is working to determine the cause of death.
No other details were made available. The homicide investigation is ongoing.
Papago Park is a large recreation area with hiking trails and is home to the Phoenix Zoo and Desert Botanical Garden.
