PHOENIX – One man is dead and one boy was injured after a multivehicle crash in west Phoenix on Tuesday evening, according to authorities.
Around 7:30 p.m., police responded to the two-vehicle collision near 74th Avenue and Thomas Road.
A man, later identified as 56-year-old Kevin Clark, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Detectives took over the investigation, which is ongoing.
After an initial investigation, detectives believe a 17-year-old boy was driving a pickup truck that was headed eastbound on Thomas Road at a high speed. The pickup then crashed into a car operated by Clark, according to authorities.
Clark’s car was headed northbound on 73rd Lane and tried to turn west onto Thomas Road when the collision occurred, according to police.
The 17-year-old remained at the scene and had minor injuries. Authorities said impairment was not believed to be a factor.
A final charging decision will come once the investigation is complete.
