PHOENIX – The suspect in a deadly double shooting in west Phoenix was arrested after a barricade situation on Monday, authorities said.

Officers responded to a shooting call in the area of 67th and Highland avenues, south of Camelback Road, around 3:20 a.m., according to the Phoenix Police Department.

They found two men suffering from gunshot wounds. The victims, 34-year-old Jose Jimenez and 21-year-old Marquez Booker, were both pronounced dead at the scene.

What happened after deadly double shooting in Phoenix?

The suspect fled the scene on foot, police said. Investigators identified him as 20-year-old Jessie Olvera and tracked him to a neighborhood near 75th and Olive avenues in Peoria.

“Olvera was taken into custody after a barricade at a nearby home. Olvera was interviewed by detectives and made incriminating statements,” Sgt. Rob Scherer said in a media advisory.

Olvera was booked into a Maricopa County jail on counts of second-degree murder and aggravated assault.

No other information about the ongoing investigation were released.
