PHOENIX — A man and woman were found dead in an apparent murder-suicide in Glendale on Tuesday, authorities said.
Officers with the Glendale Police Department found the two dead in an apartment near 79th Avenue and Union Hills Road around 12:15 p.m.
Police suspect 22-year-old Chase Cooper fatally shot his ex-girlfriend, 24-year-old Monet Newton.
“They had been in a romantic relationship and had recently separated,” Glendale Police spokesman Jose Santiago told KTAR News 92.3 FM on Wednesday. “The relationship was less than a year old.”
Victim of murder-suicide in Glendale was set to graduate soon, police said
Monet was killed before she could graduate from her master’s program, police said.
Her family flew in to the Valley to celebrate her graduation, which was set to take place this week.
They expected Monet to pick them up from the airport. But when she didn’t show up, they tried to contact her.
Concerned, her family then went to her apartment to check on her.
They found the crime scene and called Glendale Police, which sent homicide detectives to respond.
No further details were released as this is an ongoing investigation.
