Crash involving propane tanker causes major disruption on West Valley freeway

PHOENIX – Traffic on a West Valley freeway came to a standstill for hours Thursday after a multivehicle crash involving a propane tanker, authorities said.
Both directions of the Loop 101 Agua Fria Freeway were temporarily closed in the aftermath of the five-vehicle collision south of Camelback Road in Phoenix, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.
One person was hospitalized with injuries that aren’t considered life-threatening after the crash, which occurred on the northbound side of the West Valley freeway around 8:20 a.m., according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS).
A southbound closure was implemented at Camelback Road until around 11 a.m. The northbound closure at Indian School Road was lifted over an hour later.
Personnel from ADOT, DPS and the Phoenix Fire Department responded to mitigate hazardous materials and clear the wreckage. There was no threat to the community, authorities said.
