3-year-old Buckeye girl dies after being left in hot car

PHOENIX — A 3-year-old Buckeye girl died at a local hospital Sunday after being found unresponsive in a hot car, authorities said.
Officers responded to the scene near 212th Lane and Granada Road just before 5 p.m., according to the Buckeye Police Department.
The girl was pronounced dead after being rushed to a hospital.
According to preliminary information, the family returned to their home in Buckeye’s Sienna Hills community, near McDowell Road and Verrado Way, at some time after 2 p.m. after a trip to a park.

Police believe the child was left in the vehicle for about two hours.
No other information was made available. The investigation is ongoing.
Sunday was the 105th consecutive day with a high temperature of at least 100 degrees in Phoenix.
According to Kids and Car Safety, it was the third time a child died in Arizona this year after being left in a hot car and 31st time nationally.
As of Monday morning, no arrests were made in the death of the Buckeye girl.
In July, a man was arrested on charges of second-degree murder and child abuse after his 2-year-old daughter was found dead in a hot car in Marana, northwest of Tucson.
In late July, a 6-month-old baby was found dead in a car in Cordes Lakes, leading to the arrest of a juvenile accused of negligent homicide. Cordes Lakes is about 65 miles north of downtown Phoenix in Yavapai County.
