PHOENIX — Holiday travel caused heavy delays on southbound Interstate 17 between Phoenix and Flagstaff on Monday, the Arizona Department of Transportation advised.

Delays are heaviest from south of Camp Verde at milepost 275 through Black Canyon City at milepost 240, ADOT said.

The department advised drivers planning to return to the Valley to be ready for delays and pack a travel kit, including extra water and food, a fully-charged phone with charger and any medications.

There are also delays on westbound State Route 260 near Payson.

As of 6:45 p.m., ADOT said traffic is beginning to ease on the I-17.
