PHOENIX — Police officers worked an active bomb threat on Sunday evening in Chandler, authorities said.

The threat was near Rural and Ray roads in the 700 block of Tangerine Road, where some residents were being evacuated out of precaution.

At about 6:30 p.m., police advised residents to avoid the area for the active situation. About an hour later, Chandler PD said the suspect involved was in custody.

Officers said evacuated residents were cleared to return to their homes around 11 p.m.

The investigation is actively being run by the Chandler PD SWAT team and the Mesa Police Department’s Bomb Squad.

There is no remaining threat to the public, authorities said.

Chandler PD advised residents in the area of continued police presence due to the ongoing investigation.
