PHOENIX — A local business incubator signed a long-term lease for space at the historic Arnold Pickle House property in Phoenix.
Archwood Community Resource Empowerment Strategy (ACRES) will occupy the entire north building at 1401 E. Van Buren St., real estate firm NAI Horizon announced last week.
NAI Horizon represented the landlord in the $3.01 million deal, Chicanos Por La Causa (CPLC) Pickle House LLC.
A group of entrepreneurs and organizers created ACRES in 2016. Their goal was to help Black-owned businesses flourish in Arizona.
The business incubator now supports more than 200 Valley small businesses, according to an NAI Horizon press release.
What is the Arnold Pickle House?
The Arnold Pickle House was built in the 1920s as a family-owned pickle factory. CPLC purchased the building, which had been vacant for years, in 2018. The group renovated it using state grant funds awarded to foster small business opportunities.
“Once again, NAI Horizon is honored to be a partner in the redevelopment of an iconic location that will serve the community with an art gallery, art exhibitions, educational workshops, day camps, event space and co-working space,” NAI Horizon Executive Vice President Jeffrey Garza Walker said in the release.
NAI Horizon also represented the property’s other long-term tenant, the Paws 48 indoor dog park.
CORRECTION: An earlier version of this story incorrectly said NAI Horizon was the business incubator. NAI Horizon is the real estate firm that represented the property owner in the lease deal.
