In a story published September 28, 2023, about a congressional hearing over the role Hawaii’s electrical grid played in a deadly Maui wildfire, The Associated Press erroneously reported the percent of buried power lines. Hawaiian Electric CEO Shelee Kimura said about 50% of power lines on Maui are underground, not 50% of the lines in the entire state.
