Clarification: Lost Native American Cemetery story

In a story published July 21, 2023, The Associated Press reported that Sunshine Thomas-Bear, a member of the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska and the cultural preservation director for the tribe, said she wishes there had been more consultation with all 40 tribes — and not just the tribes in Nebraska — before the search for children’s remains in July. The story should have made clear that the Nebraska Commission on Indian Affairs and the state’s archeology office sent a letter to 40 tribes in May describing the plan for the search and requesting input from tribal leaders.
