PHOENIX — Police are searching for a suspect after a teenager was fatally shot in the West Valley early Sunday, authorities said.

Officers responded to a 911 call near Rooks and Lower Buckeye roads around 3 a.m. and found a 15-year-old boy with a gunshot wound, the Buckeye Police Department said.

The victim, identified later as Brendan Valenzuela, was taken to a hospital in critical condition. He died Sunday night, police said.

Valenzuela was with a group of people near Rooks and Southern roads when he was shot during an altercation, police said.

Somebody drove him about 4 miles to the location where the 911 call was made.

The suspect, who fled in an unknown vehicle, is described by police as “a male who is known to the victim.”

Anyone with information is asked to call the Buckeye police tip line at 623-349-6411.

No other information was available.
