Avondale gas station employee shoots man who came in brandishing gun

PHOENIX – An employee shot an armed man at a West Valley gas station Wednesday morning, authorities said.

The man was brandishing a gun when he entered the Chevron at 107th Avenue and Indian School Road around 5:15 a.m., according to the Avondale Police Department.

When the man became distracted by another person in the store, the employee pulled out his own firearm and shot the suspect, police said.

The wounded man was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

Nobody else was injured during the incident, which remains under investigation.

No other information was immediately available.
