PHOENIX — A climber needed rescuing from a Sedona mountain after her foot got stuck in the crack of a rock, authorities said.
The 25-year-old woman was hiking up the route around 5 p.m. Sunday on Queen Victoria Spire with a group of five when her foot slipped, according to a Coconino County press release.
Following several attempts by her group to release her leg from the crack, rescue unit personnel responded to the scene.
A trooper/medic first assessed the situation and determined more assistance from technical rescue personnel was needed.
As equipment and personnel were preparing to rig a rope rescue system, the trooper/medic was able to free the climber’s leg, the release said.
A helicopter was used to bring back the rescuers and climbers from the spire.
All climbers were evaluated by paramedics and refused additional medical care.
The Coconino County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Unit, the Sedona Fire District and the Arizona Department of Public Safety Air Rescue assisted in the response.
