PHOENIX – Police in Gilbert recently arrested a suspect in a drive-by shooting at a restaurant last year.
The Gilbert Police Department said Thursday that Warren Ishmael Bethel, 26, was booked into Maricopa County Jail on counts including attempted second-degree murder, drive-by shooting and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Bethel is accused of firing at and striking a 27-year-old man in the parking lot of the Sandbar Mexican Grill near Loop 202 Santan Freeway and Williams Field Road on Aug. 28, 2022. The man’s injuries were not life threatening.
Police had responded to a call about shots fired at the restaurant at 2:20 a.m. Witnesses said a fight had broken out and that multiple shots were fired by people in a vehicle before they fled the scene.
Officers had originally been told no one was injured, but a hospital later notified them of a gunshot victim admitted for treatment.
The ensuing investigation, which included analysis of evidence taken from the scene, led detectives to Bethel, police said.
