$4 million Mega Millions ticket purchased at Arizona truck stop

Jan 4, 2023, 9:22 AM

PHOENIX — Somebody who purchased a Mega Millions ticket at a truck stop west of metro Phoenix became an instant multimillionaire Tuesday night.

An entry sold at the TA Travel Center in Tonopah, south of Interstate 10 on 339th Avenue, nailed a $4 million prize in the latest Mega Millions drawing.

The ticket matched the five white balls in Tuesday’s drawing — 25, 29, 33, 41 and 44 — but missed the Mega Ball of 18. The $1 million cash prize for five numbers was quadrupled through the game’s Megaplier option.

The Arizona Mega Millions ticket was one of three nationwide to win $4 million, but nobody hit for the massive jackpot of about $785 million.

The game’s top prize increased to an estimated $940 million for Friday’s drawing, the sixth-largest in U.S. lottery history. There have been only three larger Mega Millions jackpots in the game’s 20 years, all over $1 billion.

A winner can get the full value by choosing an annuity paid out over 29 years. Nearly all winners opt for a cash payout, which would be an estimated $483.5 million for the next drawing.

There have been 23 straight Mega Millions drawings without anyone taking the top prize.

If claimed, Friday’s jackpot would be the largest since someone in California won a record $2.04 billion Powerball prize on Nov. 8.
