PHOENIX — Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs signed her first executive order in office after getting sworn in on Monday.

The Protecting Employment Opportunity order kicked off Hobbs’ “First 100 Days Initiative,” an agenda for her first 100 actions as governor.

The order directs the Arizona Department of Administration to reinforce nondiscrimination laws for state agencies, guarantee equal employment opportunities and establish updated procedures by April 1.

It also says new state contracts and subcontracts must include provisions to prohibit discrimination.

The order amends two previous executive actions on state employment from 2003 and 2009, respectively.

During Hobbs’ first 100 days, the administration aims to increase education opportunities after high school, invest in clean energy, address homelessness, upgrade infrastructure, boost funding for the Department of Public Safety and repeal the near-total abortion ban law, according to the governor’s website.

Hobbs took over formally for Republican Doug Ducey in a private ceremony at the state Capitol Monday morning, and a public inauguration is scheduled for Thursday.

She is the 24th governor of Arizona and the first Democrat to hold the position since 2009.

We want to hear from you.
