2 teenagers killed in Surprise when vehicle crashes into tree

PHOENIX — Two teenagers are dead and two others are in the hospital after their vehicle crashed into a tree in Surprise on Wednesday, authorities said.
The collision occurred just after 5 p.m. in a residential area near Bell and Reems roads, the Surprise Police Department said in a press release Thursday morning.
Initial information indicated that speed was a factor in the wreck, police said.
Several occupants were pinned inside the vehicle until emergency personnel could remove them.
The 17-year-old boy who was driving was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Three other males, ages 15, 16 and 18, were taken to hospitals. The 16-year-old died of his injuries at the hospital.
No other details were immediately available. The investigation is ongoing.
