Child killed in 2-vehicle collision on Thomas Road in central Phoenix

PHOENIX – A child is dead and three other people are in the hospital after a collision in central Phoenix on Tuesday morning, authorities said.
A vehicle heading eastbound on Thomas Road crossed into westbound traffic and collided with another vehicle around 9 a.m. just east of Seventh Street, the Phoenix Police Department said.
The man driving the westbound vehicle and two juvenile passengers were rushed to hospitals, police said. One of the passengers, a 9-year-old girl, died at the hospital. The man and the other child are expected to survive.
A child in the eastbound vehicle was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life threatening, and the driver didn’t report any serious injuries, police said.
Thomas was closed between Seventh and Ninth street while the scene was under investigation.
No other details were immediately available.
The investigation is ongoing.
