PHOENIX – Nothing else will matter for metro Phoenix metalheads next year when Metallica brings a double shot of headbanging to State Farm Stadium.

The thrash rock heavyweights will invade the Glendale venue Sept. 1 and 3 as part of their M72 world tour, named after the band’s forthcoming album, “72 Seasons.”

Every city on the “No Repeat Weekend” trek will get at least two nights, each with completely different set lists, of the mighty Metallica.

There even will be two slates of opening acts in each city. Pantera and Mammoth WVH kick things off for the Sept. 1 Valley date, with Five Finger Death Punch and Ice Nine Kills doing the honors on Sept. 3.

Presales start Wednesday, and two-day tickets will go on sale to the general public Friday at 10 a.m. Sales for single-day tickets will start Jan. 20.

Ticket buyers will have the option of pre-ordering vinyl or CD versions of “72 Seasons,” Metallica’s first studio album since 2016’s “Hardwired … to Self-Destruct.”

The 17-month, 22-city M72 tour includes four legs, two each in Europe and North America, starting April 27 in Amsterdam and concluding Sept. 27, 2024, in Mexico City.

Diehards with deep wallets can opt for one of the perk-filled enhanced experiences. And if you can’t ever get enough of Metallica, “I Disappear” tickets provide access to every show for either a leg, a continent or the full tour.

State Farm Stadium is the ninth stop overall and the fifth stop on the first U.S. leg. The Glendale shows will be Metallica’s first in Arizona since 2017.

In conjunction with the tour announcement Monday, the iconic metal band surprised its legion of fans by releasing “Lux Æterna,” the first single from “72 Seasons,” which doesn’t come out until April 14.

We want to hear from you.
