Scottsdale and Gilbert natives among top holiday spenders, per WalletHub

PHOENIX — With Black Friday around the corner, folks in the Valley might be wondering how much is an appropriate amount to spend on holiday shopping.
According to a personal finance website, the average Phoenician will spend about $872 over the holiday season compared to the average native of Scottsdale who is expected to spend $2,271.
WalletHub used calculations for Phoenicians based on an average profile that estimated consumers had a monthly income of $5,703, monthly expenses of $4,027 and an average savings of $11,698.
The average age per consumer was 34.5 years old.
The site took a look at 550 cities throughout the country and while Scottsdale natives were tops in the state in holiday spending, the suburb came in at 30th overall in the country.
Phoenix was ranked No. 377 in the country.
Gilbert was the only other city in the Valley that came in the top 100 of all cities. The average native of Gilbert shells out $1,631 per holiday season, good for 89th on the list.
Tucson came in as one of the lowest-spending cities in the nation ranked at No. 517. Patrons in the state’s second-largest city spend an average of $658 during the holidays.
Eight Valley cities ranked in the top 200 with Chandler (123-$1,480), Peoria (131-$1,436), Goodyear (137-$1,417), Tempe (162-$1,326), San Tan Valley (179-$1,301) and Surprise (198-$1,234) joining Scottsdale and Gilbert.
The folks in Newton, MA were the most generous in the nation averaging a holiday budget of $4,233 while the cheapest city was Hartford, CT, coming in with an average budget of $211.
