Scoop, there it is! Here are the winners in ADOT’s name-a-snowplow contest

PHOENIX – Pun-based choices cleaned up in the Arizona transportation agency’s inaugural contest to name a trio of snowplows ready to do heavy lifting in winter weather.

Winners were Alice Scooper, Snowguaro and Frost Responder, the Arizona Department of Transportation announced Friday.

Those names rolled past the remaining 12 competitors in the contest that opened to the public in October.

Each victorious name will be affixed to both doors of an assigned plow and sent to snow country.

Alice Scooper, whose name is a play on hard rock icon Alice Cooper, will be on shoveling duty at an ADOT maintenance yard in Flagstaff. Snowguaro will clear hit the highways near Superior and Frost Responder will be sent to Page.

Scooper’s win prompted reaction from the Valley rocker, calling it “one of the highlights of my life” and wanted to be sure it wasn’t a pooper scooper.

The winners were among more than 4,600 names sent in after the contest was opened to the public in October. ADOT employees put their backs into it and whittled the list to 15.

They counted almost 6,000 votes during the process, the agency said.

ADOT has 200 snowplows and nearly 500 operators stationed at maintenance yards around the state.

We want to hear from you.
