PHOENIX — Phoenix police are investigating a shooting Wednesday that left a woman hospitalized and resulted in the suspect taking his own life.

Just after 8 a.m., officers responded to reports of a shooting near Interstate 17 and Anthem Way, the Phoenix Police Department said in a press release.

When authorities arrived they found one male and one female with gunshot wounds.

Authorities said that witnesses in the area reported the man shot the woman while she was still in her car. He then walked a short distance and shot himself, police said.

Medical aid was provided to the woman before she was taken to a hospital in critical condition. The man, later identified as 38-year-old Eric Blair, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities are trying to determine what led up to the shooting as well as the relationship between the victim and suspect.

No other information was made available, and the investigation is ongoing.
