Bergies Coffee Roast House in downtown Gilbert closing after 14 years

Nov 11, 2022, 11:05 AM

PHOENIX – Bergies Coffee Roast House, a downtown Gilbert fixture since before the area grew into a bustling restaurant row, is closing after 14 years.

The throwback oasis on Gilbert Road in the heart of the town’s Heritage District will serve its last lattes on Dec. 24, owners Brian and Linda Bergeson announced “with a heavy heart” in a video posted to social media last week.

“We’re not selling Bergies, but the property has been sold and we need to transition,” Brian said in the video. No information about the buyer or plans for the property was made available.

Fans of Bergies’ custom-roasted coffee need not fret. The family-owned business will maintain its booth at the nearby Gilbert Farmers Market every Saturday and continue its online and wholesale bean sales.

“So we’re still going to be out there and available those for who want to continue to get their beans from Bergies,” Linda said.

Bergies is one of the few old-school businesses left on a street now lined mostly with modern restaurants and bars.

The shop debuted in 2009 inside a quaint cottage that’s an official stop on the Heritage District’s historic walking tour.

The interior is small, but the front patio has plenty of seating and a small stage area for musical entertainment.

“It’s been our honor to be here and to serve you,” Linda said. “Better than the business that we’ve had is the relationships that we’ve built over the last 14 years, so we thank you for that.”

We want to hear from you.
