PHOENIX – Nearly 4.8 million Arizonans are eligible to vote in next week’s general election, with Republicans holding a registration advantage over Democrats.

Statistics released Monday by the Arizona Secretary of State’s Office showed about 4.1 million active voters whose registration information is up to date.

Republicans make up 34.7% of the active voters, followed by 33.9% without a party, 30.7% Democrats and .8% Libertarians.

Arizona has another 689,000 inactive voters who are eligible to cast ballots in the Nov. 8 election. Voters are classified as inactive after two election mailings sent to a registration address are returned undeliverable and the addressee hasn’t submitted a new registration form, according to the Secretary of State’s Office.

The number of general election active voters in Arizona is nearly 140,000 lower than in 2020, when the presidential race was on the ballot, and about 425,000 above the 2018 midterm total.

Tuesday, one week before Election Day, is the recommended last day to mail back early ballots, which must be received by 7 p.m. on Election Day to count.

Early ballots can still be submitted at vote centers or official drop boxes up until the final deadline.

Maricopa County ballots received by the Saturday before Election Day will be included in the first batch of reported results at 8 p.m. Votes cast in person on Election Day will be added to the reported totals as they are loaded over the course of the night.

In the following days, “late early” ballots that weren’t received in time to be counted before Election Day will be scanned and signature-verified before being fed into tabulators. The county said it could take 10-12 days after Election Day until the tally is complete.

The statewide early period for in-person voting runs until Friday, although some counties, including Maricopa, will operate emergency sites Saturday and Monday.

By Election Day, Maricopa County will have more than 220 polling places in operation. The complete location list and schedule, along with wait times, can be found at Locations.Maricopa.Vote.
