PHOENIX — Before the night is filled with tricks and treats, it’s critical to understand pet safety heading into Halloween.
As events pop up around Phoenix, the Arizona Humane Society named a few safety tips that can help those outdoors and indoors.
Some of those tips include ensuring your pet is in a secure, quiet space with ample food, water and toys, and to refrain from taking them with you to go trick-or-treating as pets could become scared and run away.
Pets are encouraged to be microchipped, along with having a collar and ID tag.
Costumes should fit pets properly and pets should never be forced to wear one. A quick change for a photo opportunity could suffice.
Treats should also be kept out of reach and extra caution should be taken around lit pumpkins and decorations.
Anyone who sees an injured stray pet can call AHS’ field dispatch team at 602-997-7585 or visit online if your pet goes missing.
