PHOENIX — A 1-year-old girl died in Phoenix on Tuesday afternoon after drowning in a bathtub, authorities said.
A man identified as the boyfriend of the victim’s mother was caring for her and three other young siblings at the time, the Phoenix Police Department said Wednesday.
The man stepped away and left one of the other children to watch the girl in the bathtub when the drowning occurred, police said.
First-responders arrived on the scene near 27th Avenue and Indian School Road around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday and found the girl unresponsive.
It was unknown how long the child was submerged under water, authorities said.
The girl was transported to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Crisis response teams made contact with the family to assist with their needs.
Police said the incident was under investigation.
