PHOENIX – A suspect accused of injuring a Maricopa County sheriff’s deputy was taken into custody Sunday evening after a standoff at a southwest Phoenix residence, authorities said.

Deputies responded at 5:15 p.m. to reports of a man acting erratically and pointing a gun at people in the area of 70th Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road, the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office said.

The suspect allegedly assaulted a deputy before retreating into a residence, MCSO said. No details about the nature of the assault were released.

The deputy was taken to a hospital with injuries that aren’t life-threatening, MCSO said.

With help from the Phoenix Police Department, deputies set up a perimeter at the location. The suspect was later taken into custody without incident, MCSO said.

No other information was immediately available.
