PHOENIX — Arizona candidates for governor appeared on “Face the Nation” Sunday morning to talk top topics, the Rage Against the Machine show was canceled and four people were arrested after migrants were found in a cattle trailer.
Here are some of the biggest stories that headlined the Arizona news cycle over the weekend.
Both Hobbs, Lake join ‘Face the Nation’ to talk top topics
Both gubernatorial nominees in Arizona appeared on “Face the Nation” Sunday morning to discuss top topics in the state.
Republican nominee for governor Kari Lake and Democratic nominee Katie Hobbs appeared in a one-on-one interview with CBS News’ Major Garrett where they were asked about leading issues in the state, according to polling.
Those issues included border security, immigration and abortion.
Long-awaited Phoenix-area Rage Against the Machine shows canceled
Bad news for Rage Against the Machine fans who had been patiently awaiting the beloved band’s return to the Valley.
The rap-metal titans scrapped what was left of their comeback tour after singer Zack de la Rocha ripped up his Achilles tendon in the second show of their reunion.
Rage Against the Machine had been scheduled to play at Glendale’s Desert Diamond Arena (formerly Gila River Arena) with opening act Run the Jewels on Feb. 26 and 28. Tickets purchased online will be automatically refunded, according to promotors. Cash buyers should contact the arena box office.
4 arrested after 9 migrants found in cattle trailer near Nogales
Four people were arrested after nine migrants were found inside a cattle trailer during a traffic stop in Nogales, federal authorities said.
Agents pulled over a semitrailer pulling a cattle trailer on Oct. 1 around 1 a.m. and found the migrants hidden beneath a false floor, the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol said in a press release.
Phoenix gas prices expected to fall and stay under June record highs
Gas prices in metro Phoenix have creeped up to $5.02 per gallon as of Friday, per AAA, but are expected to see a decline over the coming weeks.
The rise in prices was attributed to refinery issues in California, according to Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis for GasBuddy.
“We’ve seen over four refineries go down unexpectedly,” De Haan said. “The good news is that refinery issues appear to be improving.”
Arizona abortion procedures to resume as court grants request for stay
Planned Parenthood’s motion for stay amid a lawsuit filed against a near-total abortion ban in Arizona has been granted by appellate court judges on Friday.
The ruling temporarily blocks enforcement of a law banning abortion that was set before Arizona was granted statehood and puts into effect a law that was passed earlier this year that grants abortion up until the first 15 weeks of pregnancy.
