PHOENIX — A 40-acre community park in Avondale is opening Saturday.

Alamar Park is located at 4155 S. El Mirage Road between Lower Buckeye Road and Southern Avenue.

It’ll offer a range of amenities, including baseball and softball fields, tennis, four pickleball courts, three playgrounds, a lake, a splash pad, an amphitheater, a dog park and picnic ramadas, city officials said in a press release.

There will also be an outdoor gym.

Construction on the nearly $18 million project began in February 2021.

“Quality of life has always been a top priority for residents of Avondale, and that means places to recreate, gather and be active,” Avondale Mayor Kenn Weise said in the release.

“The city is proud to add Alamar Park to our recreational spaces in Avondale, situated adjacent to the newest community of Alamar.”

Alamar is a new 1,150-acre housing development in Avondale.

A grand opening celebration on Saturday will include a ribbon cutting, food trucks, music, crafts and a dog-friendly event with treats and photo opportunities.

Weise and other city officials will attend the festivities, which will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

We want to hear from you.
