PHOENIX — Teachers across Arizona can now apply for funding to enhance learning in the classroom through a Salt River Project educational program, SRP announced Monday.

The Classroom Connections program grants are for teachers at public and nonprofit private schools in the Phoenix area, Yavapai County, Pinal County, Gila County, Page, St. Johns and Page community chapters.

SRP will provide at least $200,000 in direct classroom funding through the program.

The program will allocate funds of up to $5,000 through two grants for classrooms that teach math, science, engineering, technology and social studies, according to a press release.

Learning grants, which will allow the development of programs geared toward innovative teaching strategies in math and science, will give up to $5,000 per school.

Educators can also apply for up to $2,500 in history and social science grants, funding aimed to help support the enhancement of classroom instruction in the areas of history, geography, civics, economics and government.

Applications for the 2023-24 grants will be accepted through Feb. 28, 2023.

“SRP cares about Arizona’s future. Our educational programs are STEM-focused, which help build a stronger educational foundation for students to develop the skills they need to become SRP’s future workforce,” Kevin Rolfe, a spokesman for the power utility company, said in the release.

“From teacher workshops to grants for our educators, SRP is empowering teachers to create classrooms where everyone can succeed.”

A separate grant of up to $250 per teacher — Powering Our Future — is available for teachers of grades 4-12. The funding is for educators to purchase additional materials and supplies to teach components of the Powering Our Future curriculum.
