PHOENIX – If you live Phoenix, you can probably throw away your old trash pickup schedule.

A new pickup schedule goes into effect Monday for 80% of the city’s trash, recycling and green organic customers. The quarterly bulk trash pickup schedule is not affected.

The city sent out postcards, and went door-to-door in some areas, as part of a campaign to spread the word about the changes.

Customers can go online to confirm if and how they are affected. The city has an online PDF map showing the new days as well as an interactive tool with a search-by-address function.

Customers should continue getting their bins outside, spaced at least 4 feet apart, by 5:30 a.m. Pickups start at 6 a.m.

Phoenix hasn’t rerouted its pickup operations since 2009.

“So we’ve really taken some time to look at all of our routes to account for all the growth and really provide a more equitable workday for our operators,” Lorizelda Stoeller, deputy public works director for the city, told KTAR News 92.3 FM last month.

More information about the changes plus recycling tips and resources are available on the Phoenix Public Works Department website.

KTAR News 92.3 FM’s Colton Krolak contributed to this report.
