PHOENIX — A personal finance website ranked Phoenix in the top five on a list of best U.S. cities for vegans and vegetarians.

Phoenix was ranked No. 4 out of the 100 largest cities, only behind Portland, Orlando and Los Angeles.

WalletHub based its review on cost and the share of restaurants serving meatless options among other metrics.

Phoenix placed No. 19 in affordability, which takes into account cost of groceries, affordable restaurants with vegan and vegetarian options and average meal cost.

The city is ranked No. 13 for diversity, accessibility and quality, which looks at 10 factors including share of restaurants serving vegetarian and vegan options, access to fresh vegetarian food and certified organic farms per capita.

Chandler tied for No. 1 in percentage of restaurants serving vegetarian options with Plano, Texas, and Scottsdale came in at No. 3.

Scottsdale finished first in percentage of restaurants serving vegan options, while Tucson ranked No. 4 in vegetable nurseries per capita.

Phoenix came in No. 65 for vegetarian lifestyle, which is measured by Grubhub’s list of cities most likely to order vegetarian or vegan and the availability of vegan or vegetarian festivals among other metrics.

Tucson finished No. 26 overall, the second-highest ranked Arizona city. Scottsdale was right behind at No. 27.
