PHOENIX — The spring 2023 ticket lottery for tours of the Tovrea Castle at Carraro Heights in Phoenix opens Saturday and runs through Oct. 15.

The Valley landmark known locally as the “Wedding Cake Castle” was built in 1928 and is also venue for private events, like weddings.

Those who enter the contest, which is only available online, will have a chance to purchase regular tour tickets. Overwhelming demand led to the creation of the lottery system, according to the website.

People can enter by filling out contact information with up to three preferred dates and times and their desired number of tickets.

Winners will be notified via email with the date and time of their scheduled tour. They’ll then have 72 hours to pay or else that slot will be given to another lottery entry.

Tickets are $22 per adult, and children 2 years old and younger get admitted for free.

The tour includes a tram ride through the Carraro Cactus Gardens with a docent before reaching the castle.

Regular tours only run Friday-Sunday and will commence regardless of weather, according to the website.

The castle is located near Van Buren Street and Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway.

We want to hear from you.
