PHOENIX — U.S. Sen. Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona isn’t shying away from predicting fellow Democrat Mark Kelly will retain his seat in the upcoming midterm election.

Sinema told KTAR News 92.3 FM on Thursday she thinks it will be Kelly — not Republican challenger Blake Masters — who will win the Nov. 8 election.

“I fully expect Senator Kelly to be reelected by the people of Arizona and return to Washington, D.C.,” Sinema said.

A poll released Wednesday by OH Predictive Insights had Kelly up 47%-35% over Masters.

The poll was conducted Sept. 6-9 and had a margin of error of plus or minus 3.83%.

Sinema, who has procured a reputation as a champion for bipartisanship since taking office, said she wants to keep working with Kelly, especially on border issues.

“I need his help,” Sinema said. “We’ve partnered together very respectfully in the past two years to make sure that folks out here on the East Coast actually understand what it’s like to live in a border state and to serve a border community as he and I do.

“So I expect him to come back to D.C. and continue the work we are doing.”

Kelly’s seat is one of several in the Senate up for grabs during the midterms.

A strong showing for Republicans could flip the chamber in their favor, a possibility Sinema said doesn’t concern her.

“I can also promise Arizonans that regardless of who wins elections in other states or even our state or who is in charge of party politics in D.C., I can work with anyone to get things done,” Sinema said.
