PHOENIX — American Airlines will begin daily nonstop service from Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport to another destination in Mexico early next year.
Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport said Wednesday that trips to Monterrey in northeastern Mexico will take off starting Jan. 10. There hasn’t been nonstop service between the two cities since 2004.
“Mexico is Phoenix’s No. 1 trade and tourism partner, which makes air service to Monterrey increasingly important for our local economy,” Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego said in a press release announcing the route.
“As American Airlines expands its international service, Phoenix benefits from increased connectivity to emerging global markets and sought-after leisure destinations.”
The daily flight is scheduled to begin Jan. 10, 2023. It will depart Phoenix at 7:50 p.m. and arrive in Monterrey at 11 p.m. The return flight will depart Monterrey at 8 a.m. and arrive in Phoenix at 9:40 a.m.
The aircraft for the flight, an Embraer 175, can seat up to 76 passengers.
American Airlines offers flights to 13 destinations in Mexico from Sky Harbor.
Prepandemic, international flights at Sky Harbor had a yearly economic impact of $3 billion, an airport spokeswoman said.
