PHOENIX – A teenage boy fatally shot a man during an exchange of gunfire in Phoenix on Monday, authorities said.
Officers responded to a shooting call near Thomas Road and Interstate 17 around 5 p.m. and found two people with gunshot wounds, the Phoenix Police Department said in a press release Tuesday.
Michael Medina, 21, was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The juvenile, whose identity wasn’t released, was treated at a hospital for injuries that weren’t considered life-threatening.
Based on early information, police said Medina allegedly shot first and the teen returned fire.
The teen was released while investigators work to determine what led up to the shooting.
Police plan to submit the case to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office for review after completing their investigation.
No other details were immediately available.
