PHOENIX – Fires at two businesses several blocks apart burning around the same time kept Phoenix firefighters busy late Monday and into Tuesday, first responders said.

The Phoenix Fire Department stopped blazes at a recycling yard near 19th Avenue and Buckeye Road, then at a used-car lot near 35th Avenue and Buckeye Road.

Nobody was injured in either fire.

Firefighters were called to the recycling yard about a trash fire underneath an aluminum structure. They eventually got the flames under control and turned to suppression efforts to shut down the rest of the flames.

Flames and smoke were visible from a distance at King Auto Sales when a crew arrived.

A large fire was burning in the repair area, but firefighters were able to subdue the flames quickly, they said.

An investigation into the causes of the fires is underway, the department said.

No other details were made available.
