Here’s where 9/11 tributes are taking place in metro Phoenix this weekend

PHOENIX — Sunday marks 21 years since nearly 3,000 people were killed in the deadliest terrorist attack ever perpetrated on U.S. soil.
A variety of tributes are scheduled across metro Phoenix this weekend to remember the lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001, and honor the sacrifices of first responders.
Here’s a list of events scheduled to commemorate the day:
WHERE: Tempe Beach Park (80 W. Rio Salado Parkway)
WHEN: Flag stand up starts at 6 a.m. Friday and will remain at the park through Monday morning.
MORE: A freedom concert will go from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday. A candlelight vigil will be held Sunday at 7 p.m.
Tunnel to Towers 5K Run and Walk
WHERE: Tempe Beach Park (80 W. Rio Salado Parkway)
WHEN: Saturday, 8 a.m.
MORE: Registration ends Saturday at 11 a.m.
WHERE: Salt River Fields (7556 N. Pima Road)
WHEN: Saturday, 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.
MORE: Packet pick up is from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday. Registration includes a commemorative T-shirt.
WHERE: Gila River Arena (9400 W. Maryland Ave.)
WHEN: Saturday, 8 a.m.
MORE: Events are also available in Flagstaff and Tucson.
WHERE: Victory Steps at Verrado (Trail 340, North Verrado Way)
WHEN: Sunday, 5 a.m. to 8 a.m.
MORE: All proceeds for the event will benefit United Buckeye Firefighter Charities, Local L4311 and the Buckeye Police Association.
9/11 Memorial and Pancake Breakfast
WHERE: Goodyear Fire Station #183 (3075 N. Litchfield Rd.)
WHEN: Sunday, 8 a.m. to noon
MORE: The event will be livestreamed on Goodyear’s Facebook page.
WHERE: 9/11 Memorial Plaza (50 E. Civic Center Drive)
WHEN: Sunday, 6 p.m.
MORE: The nearby Gilbert water tower will be illuminated red, white and blue on Sunday.
