PHOENIX – As per usual over holiday weekends in metro Phoenix and beyond, Arizona transportation officials aren’t scheduling any construction closures on the freeways for Labor Day.
The Arizona Department of Transportation said there will be no closures on the Valley highways from Friday afternoon to Tuesday morning.
The agency wasn’t specific about start and stop times, but did say drivers should be prepared for lane restrictions in some of the existing work zones, such as southbound Interstate 17 near Flagstaff.
A 30-mile stretch of the freeway south of Flagstaff will be down to one lane as a pavement project continues.

ADOT expected the busiest road trip times to be Friday afternoon into the early evening for the getaway dash and again Monday afternoon for the trip home.
I-17 and State Route 87 are usually among the busiest highways over Labor Day weekend, ADOT said.
Travelers should be prepared not just for delays, but emergencies, the department said. Pack extra drinking water, blankets, a first aid kit, flashlight, extra batteries, a fully charged cellphone and charger, snacks and a small tool kit.
