PHOENIX — Glendale police are investigating a head on car accident that left a woman and her unborn child dead on Sunday, authorities said.
Police responded to the accident involving two vehicles at the intersection on 67th and Northern Avenues just after 6:30 p.m.
The two vehicles involved were a sedan and a pick-up truck, according to a press release.
Five people were in the sedan, including 34-year-old Bridgette Lee Armijo, who was pregnant and in the front passenger seat.
After suffering serious injuries, Armijo was transported to a local hospital where her and the unborn child died as a result of the injuries, the release said.
The driver of the sedan was taken to the hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries and three children in the backseat were transported with minor injuries.
As for the truck in the crash, two adults were in the front seat and treated for non-life threatening injuries, while a child was in the back seat and did not suffer any injuries.
Detectives then determined the truck was traveling eastbound on Northern Ave. making a left turn onto 67th Ave., according to the release.
The sedan, heading westbound on Northern, then entered the intersection where the vehicles met head on.
Detectives are currently investigating right-of-way and whether speed or impairment were factors.
